What you believe about God, Jesus Christ, life, eternity, and meaning are the most important things for you to think through. We completely agree with Emmanuel Baptist Church’s “Statement of Faith,”which describes our foundational theological beliefs.
Meaning & Purpose:
One of the most terrible feelings in life isn’t to feel hated, but to feel ignored and worthless. The Bible says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). That verse isn’t only talking about “us” as humans, but also as individuals! I assure you that you you are not worthless! God created you, and He doesn’t use cookie-cutter molds (even if you look a lot like someone in your family… even if you have an identical twin!). Not only did God make you, God made you in His own image!
God put your here on purpose. He is on a mission, and he wants you to join Him!
Sin & Salvation
Ok, so I know that “Sin” is a heavy word that makes people feel like you’re accusing them of something. Yeah… that’s the point. We’ve all done tons of things that are just plain wrong (we’ve done them on purpose, and we’ve sinned in lots of we that we aren’t even aware of)! Sin isn’t fun for anyone to talk about. Sometimes people think that Christians like to talk about sin (and maybe some do!), but I don’t. It’s much more comfortable for all of us to just pretend that “I’m ok, you’re ok, we’re all ok.” But that’s simply not that case… try reading the newspaper if you disagree with me.
I’ve never met anyone who’s truly thought that they are without any faults, which goes to show that, to some degree or another, we’re all aware that we’re not perfect and need some fixing. But how do you get “fixed?” I mean, you can’t just go to a store and order a pure heart or extra patience, can you?
At Emmanuel Baptist Church and at Youth Group we believe that God brings us wholeness and peace and healing as we grow stronger in our love for Jesus Christ. As I wrote earlier… God created each of us, and we were all created to love God and to be loved by Him.
Some people talk about faith in Jesus Christ like as soon as you believe in him you’ll suddenly be transformed into the perfectly holy person. And so you pray to Jesus to forgive you of your sins and ask him to lead you throughout the rest of your life and to show you what it means to love him with all your heart… and then a month later when life is still a struggle you feel like you’ve been duped!
That’s what we call “Sanctification,” or “the process of God making us holy as we pursue Him.” Living for Jesus works… in fact, it’s the ONLY way to be “fixed” from sin and made whole and holy… but it won’t be complete until we’re on the other side of eternity!
Come on out and visit us on Sunday mornings for worship and come join us for youth group sometime. We’d love to get to know you!
